Answer D & E
D. The patient has a metabolic acidosis. Increase the ECMO flow.
E. The patient has a metabolic acidosis. Administer IV Sodium Bicarbonate.
The patient’s ABG demonstrates a respiratory acidosis, with a normal Bicarb of 24.9. He does not have a metabolic acidosis, so giving Sodium Bicarb would be inappropriate. Increasing the ECMO flow rate alone is also unlikely to correct the hypercarbia.
