Frequently Asked Questions
Can I join as an individual? No, currently the Academy is accepting only ECMO program enrollment. Then all members of the ECMO team are considered “members” and have access to all content at the Academy. We hope ECMO Programs will recognize and support the educational value of the Academy and provide access for their team.
Is an account required? Yes. Each individual member will need to establish a free “account” using their hospital, university, or institutional email and a personal password in order to access the Academy. Once you are logged in, you will use a unique password assigned to your entire program to complete entry and access.
We have a small program with only a handful of physicians and specialists. Is there any discount? Yes, there is a standard annual tuition for large programs, and a discounted tuition for medium and smaller programs.
Can I earn CME at the Academy? Yes, ECMO Academy has partnered with the CME office at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans to offer AMA CAT I CME hours for physicians, Physician Assistants, and Nurse Practitioners. The Academy is currently exploring continuing education possibilities for Perfusionists, Nurses and Respiratory Therapists.
Does the Academy offer anything besides the educational material? Yes. Besides the case scenarios, simulated consults, ethics cases, “Deep Dive” instruction, and Pro/Con debates on ECMO “Hot Topics”, the Academy offers “Help wanted” and “Job wanted” area at the Career Center in the Scott Student Union, where member centers and individual members can post information. At the Wilson Visitor Center, members can find basic ECMO product information and contact links from our industry partners (“Friends of the Academy”). And at the Tucker Infirmary, centers experiencing difficulties with their program structure, outcomes, specific issues, specific case review, or education of program expansion, can explore options for education or consulting from the Academy.
What will you use my email for? The website platform (SQUARESPACE) requires your email as a username to log into the member only area. They will not use, distribute or sell your email for marketing purposes, etc. You will receive a single email from the site to confirm successful creation of your account. The Academy will add your email to its list and send 1) a first of the month email highlighting any changes or added material or cases, and 2) a notification email for any unplanned outages or website maintenance issues that arise, with an estimated restoration time. You can opt out of these emails by request to ecmoacademy@gmail.com.
Will there be any website downtime for website maintenance? There will be no planned website downtime. The vast majority of added material and changes can be done without shutting down, and if you are logged in at the time, you may notice something the next time the page is refreshed.
