Before you react, yes, it would be perfectly acceptable to decline Joseph support based on his BMI. Many centers have elected to have specific weight cut-offs for support. However there is also some literature suggesting even patients with high BMI can have acceptable survival rates with ECMO support, particularly with VV for respiratory failure.
